Barcelona 3 Arsenal 1

  • Barcelona ran out clear and deserved winners in their 3-1 triumph over Arsenal. The visiting team will point to Robin van Persie's controversial dismissal, but in truth the Gunners were nowhere near their mesmeric opponents.

  • Man of the Match - Andres Iniesta. The Spain playmaker was at his imperious, playing a crucial role in two of his team's three goals. He dictated play from the heart of the pitch and the Gunners struggled to shackle him as a sumptuous pass created Lionel Messi's opener and a slaloming run helped set up Xavi's goal.

  • Barcelona verdict The Spanish champions bossed this contest from the first minute to the last and the only blot on their evening will be the needless concession of a sloppy goal. Josep Guardiola's team were commanding in possession and, at times, they cut the Arsenal backline open at will.

  • Arsenal verdict: The visitors were not helped by Robin van Persie's harsh dismissal with the match at 1-1, but Arsene Wenger's team did not display the necessary urgency at any point in the contest. A valiant effort in defence, but utterly toothless in attack.

  • Could do better: Cesc Fabregas endured a torrid time on his return to Barcelona, a performance epitomised by his loose back-heel which gifted his former club the opening goal. It was no surprise when the Gunners captain was withdrawn in the closing stages.

  • Stat attack: Arsenal had zero shots on goal during the match at the Camp Nou, with their goal coming courtesy of Barcelona's Sergio Busquets.
